Women's Health

Focus: Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Menopause & Cardiovascular Health (CVD)

Key Driver

Hormonal transitions — particularly around menopause — intersect with metabolic and vascular changes that influence women’s risk of chronic disease. Understanding these shifts and keeping up with screening is vital.

Breast Cancer

What it is:

The most common cancer in women. While many risk factors can’t be changed (e.g. genetics), lifestyle and screening can make a major difference in early detection and risk reduction.

Screening:

BreastScreen mammograms every 2 years from age 50–74 (or earlier based on personal/family history), consider genetic screening if moderate or high risk family history.

Cervical Cancer

What it is:

A preventable cancer caused by persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV).

Screening:

Cervical screening test (CST) every 5 years from age 25–74.

Menopause & Cardiovascular Health

What it is:

The menopausal transition marks a shift in hormonal balance — especially estrogen — which previously offered some cardiovascular protection. After menopause, women’s risk of heart disease, stroke, and metabolic issues rises significantly.

Why These Conditions Matter Together

Women’s health risk evolves across the lifespan. Reproductive, hormonal, and metabolic factors are deeply interlinked — and shifts like menopause can unmask cardiovascular risk. Being aware, screening, self-awareness, and lifestyle choices all play a role.
